ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE SET FOR TUESDAY
The annual Whitesboro Christmas Parade is set to take place next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s parade will carry the theme, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

Immediately following the parade, Mayor W.D. “Dee” Welch will illuminate the downtown Christmas tree under the clock at City Hall, where Santa Claus will also be on hand to receive wish lists from the eager children on hand for the event.

Downtown merchants will be hosting late shoppers until 9 p.m. and a “wassail tasting contest.”

‘OPEN HOUSE’ DEC. 9
Local merchants will showcase their wares during a special December 9 “Business Open House” sponsored by the Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event -- slated to function from 10 a.m. to noon -- shortly following the conclusion of Santa’s Breakfast at the middle school, will include businesses both downtown and in the outlying areas.

Chamber Executive Vice President Janis Crawley said the first-time event, “Share the Spirit,” is designed to boost local economy.

Santa and his helpers, planning to talk with children and distribute candy canes, are scheduled to appear at noon on the north side of Main Street.

QUIET CELEBRATION HONORS RESIDENT’S 96TH BIRTHDAY
There’s a wealth of knowledge, a storage of wisdom and a mountain of memories in the  mind of Whitesboro resident Maime Kiper of Hall Street, who celebrated her 96th birthday Sunday, Nov. 24.

There was no hoopla or fanfare in the near century-old observance...just a quiet celebration and a day of reminiscence for the 96-year-young Miss Kiper who has no living relatives.

Thanksgiving, like her birthday observance, will be a quiet and uneventful day. Above all, however, it will be a day that reflects much thankfulness in the mind of Maime.

“I thank God for my well-being...I want good health and I want to stay a Christian until I die!” she exclaimed.
