Although she now lives in Tomball, Texas, Loretta Bourn was raised in Whitesboro. She attended school here from kindergarten through high school and still has strong ties to her hometown.

A member of the Class of 1976, Bourn was in town last month for this year’s Peanut Festival and to help plan her 50th high school reunion.

The daughter of a peanut farmer, Bourn appreciates the history of the town’s biggest festival of the year. She has fond memories shelling peanuts as a kid and even remembers attending the city’s first-ever Peanut Festival in 1969.

She purchased a ticket for this year’s 2025 Chevrolet Trax vehicle give-away, never expecting to actually come away a winner. But imagine her surprise when her name was called and she had the opportunity to meet with Ronny Gregory of Holiday Auto Group  to get the keys to her new ride.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, Bourn also won another drawing at the Peanut Festival. She was the lucky recipient of a $500 gift certificate to Bubblin Boro, a new laundromat in town.

While enjoying dinner that night with her high school friends, Bourn struck up a conversation with the widow of one of her classmates. When Bourn mentioned the laundromat gift card, the widow said she is a frequent customer there.

“It’s a really nice place!” she told her.

Seeing the woman’s excitement, Bourn then passed on the gift card to her, happy to be able to share her good fortune with others.

The Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce gives a huge thank-you to Holiday Chevrolet for their help in securing the vehicle for the give-away, and for their continued generosity and unwavering support of the Peanut Festival and the Whitesboro community.

They also send their congratulations again to Bourn – may she enjoy the road ahead!
