In her President’s Corner newsletter, Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) District 10 President Susan McDaniel reminded members of the West Grayson County Retired School Personnel Association (WGRSPA) that the Texas Retired Teacher Foundation “is the charitable arm of TRTA, providing scholarships for future educators, classroom assistance grants for active teachers and emergency aid for retired teachers in need.”

WGRSPA designates a set amount per member for donation to the foundation each year and also holds a focused fundraiser each November, TRTF Bingo.

This year, Frankie and Harold Tamplen generously added a silent auction featuring one of her locally famous delicious pies and one of his strong, beautiful totes for carrying hot dishes. Harold brought three totes for selection purposes to a recent meeting and announced that anyone else who wished could purchase the remaining ones at the same price paid by the silent auction winner. As a result, the Tamplens raised $240 for TRTF. Such generosity is not only exemplary to everyone but fuels the awesomely great causes of TRTF.

The WGRSPA extends a sincere thank-you to Doris Haynie and Elizabeth Jones for their purchases. To learn more about making donations to the WGRSPA, contact Sue Barker at 903-821-8523.

WGRSPA meets the first Tuesday of the month at Las Haciendas restaurant in Whitesboro at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and meeting at noon. All public education employees are encouraged to join as WGRSPA works to improve the benefits for retirees and for fellowship. Through their efforts they helped thousands of retired public employees start to receive the benefits they earned outside their public servant jobs as well as continuing to work for improved benefits for retirees and active teachers.

For information about becoming a member of TRTA and WGRSPA, contact Carol Pike at 903-815-0633.
