Whitesboro Independent School District named the finalists and winner of this year’s annual Christmas card design contest  at Monday night’s school board meeting.

For eight years, the district has offered students the opportunity to create an original piece of art to be featured on its Christmas card. These cards are sent out to district staff members, vendors, local businesses, other Texas school districts and organizations throughout the state.

Each year, the district rotates participation between the elementary and secondary campuses to offer more opportunities to local students. Then, a committee chooses the finalists and votes on the winning card.

“We love this contest, seeing all of the great ideas using artistic ability to promote #TeamWhitesboro and Bearcat spirit along with the wonder of Christmas,” Sandra Lloyd, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, said. “Our students are so talented, and we love getting to share their work!”

This year’s contest was open to WISD art students in grades 6-12. Participants were asked to draw an original Christmas picture with markers, colored pencils (recommended) or paint to fit inside a space designated on an entry form. Drawings were not to have any names on the front to maintain anonymity for judging. Lastly, the artwork should include the year “2025” in the design and should show team spirit by incorporating at least one of the following: #TeamWhitesboro, Whitesboro Bearcats, #Rise and/or The Boro.

This year’s finalists included:

Presley Lawson (artwork: Boro smoke out of chimney with Santa)
Ireland Lawler (artwork: Texas with W)
Emily Welles (artwork: Santa and peanuts)
Leylany Labrada (artwork: W with Santa hat)
Emma Lemke (artwork: Ribbon Christmas Tree)
Dorothy Valentine (artwork: Bearcat and candy canes)

Lawson was the winner of the contest. Her depiction of Santa walking across a snow-covered roof with “Boro” billowing out of a chimney will be featured on the front of this year’s holiday cards. All of the other works of art will be featured on the back.

Each finalist received a Christmas stocking filled with goodies, treats and a handful of the printed cards.
