The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce (GACC) is continuing their Small Business Season initiative to support small and local businesses. Running from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, this year’s campaign carries the powerful message, “Every Purchase Has a Purpose.” The GACC is encouraging consumers to “Shop Local” and earmark at least part of their holiday spending in support of local business.
“Every time you choose to shop or dine local, you’re buying more than a product or service. You’re investing in community, jobs, and the uniqueness of our community,” GACC President/CEO Jennifer Shumate said. “Small Business Season reminds us that local choices have a lasting impact. Together, we can help our neighbors and community thrive.”
Shumate underscored the significance of shopping locally by saying, “Local spending builds momentum, powering the people, places, and possibilities that define our town. Data shows that for every $100 spent at a local business, approximately $68 stays in the community, compared to only $43 at a national chain. That money supports local jobs, infrastructure, and essential services—creating a ripple effect that benefits everyone.”
The GACC encourages everyone to join them in celebrating Small Business Season and rediscover the joy of shopping local. Let’s make this holiday season one to remember by visiting the businesses that make our community so special.
