The Basin Springs Cemetery Association held its bi-annual General Meeting and Cemetery Clean-up on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025. The meeting, which was open to all interested, was held on Brooks Lane in Sadler. The meeting was called to order by Jamie Miller, President. It was the first and only meeting in 2025 as the one in April was called due to bad weather.
Due to the passing of the Association’s former president, Barbara Gotcher, a new board was elected. In addition to President Miller, Board Members are Charles Walker, Vice President; Christina Schuttler, Secretary; Susan Moody, Treasurer and Ronnie Bullard, Member-at-Large. There is a vacancy for the second Member at Large position.
Moody gave the financial report as it stands the end of September. With the new CD, the cemetery is averaging $46/month interest which is being deposited in the cemetery’s working funds.
The Association had contracted with a mowing company for the summer, but the company ceased to respond to any correspondence after two mowings and their contract was considered null and voided. This company was notified by both email and text messages. Another individual is interested and will be contacting the association in the spring with information.
Brad Watson had constructed eight concrete crosses to mark unmarked graves. Those were to be placed during the clean-up portion of the meeting. The Association made plans to meet with him to make more crosses and to help reimburse for materials.
The Association is moving forward in obtaining a Texas Historic Cemetery Designation. The group plans to meet to work on writing the historical information needed and then submit all information to the State of Texas.
Date of Death for two markers with no descendants has been requested with a local funeral home. An anonymous donor has offered to pay for the expenses of having this done.
Another donor has given the Association small flags to mark veterans graves during Veteran’s Day.
The meeting was adjourned and the group moved to the cemetery to begin spring clean-up. The eight concrete crosses were placed on previously marked graves which allowed previously other unmarked graves to be marked with a temporary marker.
In preparation for the upcoming winter months and to protect the grounds people, all arrangements, including those in prohibited metal containers, were removed from the graves. As a reminder, the Association prohibits any metal containers or metal items from being placed around stones. These items are dangerous for those that are mowing and maintaining the cemetery.
Attendees of the meeting and clean-up were: Mike and Susan Moody; Chris, Christina, Robert and Emma Schuttler; Jim and Mary Anderson; Steve and Jamie Miller and Ronnie Bullard.
Clean-ups are held twice a year on the first Saturdays of April and October beginning with a meeting open to all interested parties at 9 a.m. at the Moody’s on Brooks Lane. The next meetings and clean-ups will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026 and Oct. 3, 2026 at 9 a.m. Families and friends of those buried at the cemetery are encouraged to attend both the meetings and the clean-ups.
The cemetery has a Facebook Group page and an email, [email protected], for those who would like to get in touch with the board electronically. Mail and donations can be made via PayPal or sent to the cemetery’s Post Office Box at Basin Springs Cemetery Association, Attention Treasurer, P. O. Box 25, Sadler, TX 76264. For donations to be considered for the 2025 tax season, all donations must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2025. The cemetery has 501(c)13 non-profit status – receipts for donations are given to all donors.
Current needs for the cemetery upkeep are bags of concrete fire ant poison, tombstone cleaner and assistance during the mowing period. Please contact the board if you are able to help.
