The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Texas is asking everyone to take part in World Singing Day on Saturday, Oct. 18. The GFWC History Club of Whitesboro and the GFWC Lake Area Woman’s Club of Gordonville will be hosting a combined event at the Annual Peanut Festival on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Main Stage. Some members of the Whitesboro Community Choir and the Whitesboro High School Choir will join the women’s clubs at the Main Stage to sing Celebration by Kool and the Gang. Everyone is asked to sing along.
World Singing Day was created in 2012 by American musician Scott Johnson, a co-founder of the Positive Music Association that promotes musicians and music with positive, life-affirming messages. He created World Signing Day to give people around the globe an opportunity to experience the joy within themselves through singing.
World Singing Day is a joyful celebration of music and community experience for everyone, musicians and non-musicians alike, regardless of their race, national origin, religious affiliation, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and singing ability. It encourages people from different backgrounds and paths of life to put aside their differences and celebrate the things we all share as human beings by singing together. The event is not political or religious, nor does it single out any culture or country.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international organization dedicated to improving local communities through volunteer service. GFWC has state federations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. There are 21 International Affiliate Clubs in 12 countries worldwide. GFWC members are community leaders who advocate for domestic violence awareness and prevention programs and efforts to support children. Volunteers work locally to impact their communities by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging civic involvement.
