At a special called meeting on Sept. 22, the Collinsville City Council agreed to nullify a citizen petition regarding the recently approved property tax rate.
After the Council initially proposed a $0.7100 property tax rate, it opted to propose a $0.626353 rate per $100 valuation.
Citizens initiated a petition for a vote to bring the tax to $0.603253, feeling the tax proposal was still too high.
However, the Council ultimately adopted a no-new-revenue tax rate of $0.591085 per $100 valuation.
As such, the petition was deemed invalid, as it called for a rate higher than what the Council officially adopted.
Also at this meeting, the Council approved the multiple use agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the construction, maintenance and operation of a public fixed license plate reader at the northbound 9400 block of S. Hwy. 377; southbound 11900 block of N. Hwy. 377; westbound 25,800 block of E. FM 902 and eastbound 27200 block of W. FM 902.
According to the ordinance, fixed license plate readers are an effective tool that provide a myriad of benefits and improve law enforcement in general.
