WISD TRUSTEES ADOPT NEW JUNIOR SENIOR PROM POLICY
The Whitesboro ISD Board of Trustees adopted a new prom policy as one part of a regularly scheduled board meeting last Monday.

Whitesboro High School Principal Rendell Cole presented the board with written policy outlining the requirements to attend the prom. The controversial policy proposed as approved will only allow WHS students in grades 9-12, their spouses and school alumni to attend the prom.

Also as part of the policy, alumni must be granted approval from the high school principal prior to attending the prom and freshmen and sophomores may only attend if invited as a date of a junior or senior.

TECHNOLOGY AIDS IN LOCATING MISSING CHILDREN
The Whitesboro and Collinsville Police Departments have formalized their relationship with a national program that assists in the search of missing children, the elderly (often with Alzheimer’s), and the disabled in the first critical hours of their disappearance.

A Child Is Missing Alert Program (ACIM) is the only program of its kind in the country offered free to law enforcement.

ACIM is a nonprofit organization that uses a high technology telephone alert system to canvass a neighborhood with calls describing the missing person and asking anyone with leads to call their local law enforcement. Alert calls are launched within 15 minutes from request for assistance at a rate of 1,000 calls per 60 seconds.

ACIM can work in tandem with Amber Alerts. ACIM has been credited by law enforcement with 105 safe recoveries in the last 40 months.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY DISCUSSES PROJECTS
Whitesboro’s Historical Society heard a report from Mrs. Sears Anderson and Mrs. Reavis Sappenfield on a historical marker committee workshop they attended recently in Sherman and members discussed projects.

They reported that eight counties were represented and the Grayson County organization “had the best report.”

John Ben Sheppar, president, said in his speech that the idea is to mark all historical places with star markers for the benefit of tourists, the local women said.

After hearing the report on the workshop, members of the local group discussed the possibility of putting a marker on the grave of Captain White, founder of Whitesboro.

CofC TO SPONSOR FAIR -- NEXT YEAR
If you’ve been waiting for the Whitesboro Community Fair, you will have to wait until next year before you can attend.

According to a report from Charles Estes, principal at the Whitesboro High School, at the local Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday night, the vocational agriculture department and other departments are no longer sponsoring the community event, however they will continue to sponsor the annual livestock show, which, in the past, has been held in connection with the fair.

Because the fair had grown so large and was an important affair for the community, directors of the chamber voted to start work immediately for a community fair, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce next year. A committee will be appointed.
