On Sept. 13, U10 home soccer team Burn, coached by Taylor Nix, played against visiting team Quakes, coached by Sumer Cantrell. The Quakes came away the winner of this first preseason game, with a final score of 2-1.

Quakes player Knox Johnson scored a goal, as did Steven Cuellar. Outstanding Offensive Player went to Johnson, who earned a point for the team and aided in one assist. Outstanding Defensive Player (and Player of the Week nominee) was Aesclin Torres. Rylee Kell and Bentley Calvillo were also strong contributors to a well-played game.

While the Quakes had much to celebrate, it was the work ethic and good sportsmanship of both teams that was the true victory of the day.

“There was great hustle and effort by all players of each team,” Coach Cantrell said. She also praised the referee for being encouraging and providing positive mentoring to both teams’ players and coaches.
