Rams rout Indians, pick first win in 3 years
The drought is over. The S&S Ram football team snapped a 27-game losing Friday night, at homecoming, with a 20-12 win over Nocona.
The Ram losing streak dated back to the middle of the 2022 season— just three short of the school loss record from 1967-70.
Nocona struck early, but the Rams took the lead on the final play of the first half and held the Indians to a second-half shutout and the curse was lifted.
Hunter Courville ran 14 times for 91 yards and a TD.
He completed 7-of-13 passes for 75 yards.
On defense, he led the Rams with 15 tackles and two interceptions.
Noah Rondeau had 12 carries for 54 yards and a score.
Kenny Melton had a touchdown pass to Adam Mutz.
Joe Orr had four catches for 43 yards.
While the tides could be turning for S&S, Nocona is going the other direction.
They are on a 10-game losing streak dating back to their 42-32 win over S&S last year.
The Rams look to carry on the momentum as they travel to Rivercrest tonight.
Bearcats come up short to Graham
The Whitesboro Bearcats went west to play up and came up short Friday with a 35-7 loss to Graham.
Wyatt Winchester led the Bearcat effort with three catches for 25 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore quarterback Colt Fagan went 4-of-7 passing for 26 yards and a touchdown.
He also ran five times for 25 yards.
Justin Knight had 13 carries for 28 yards.
Rip Harper had five carries for 21 yards.
The loss took Whitesboro to 2-1 on the year. They host Commerce tonight.
Pirates fall to C’burg
The Callisburg Wildcats proved they are contenders Friday night with a 41-27 win over Collinsville at home.
Chad Davidson had 12 catches for 241 yards and two touchdowns during the Pirates.
Paxton Davidson went 19-of-36 passing for 239 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
He also had 15 carries for 96 yards and a TD.
Caysen Schafer had two catches for 29 yards and a score.
He also threw a 55-yard touchdown pass.
Chase Sheppard had two carries for 30 yards.
The loss took Collinsville 2-1 on the year. They host Wolfe City tonight..
Gabe Zinski had a touchdown catch and a TD run for Callisburg.
The win took the Wildcats to 2-1 on the year. They travel to Boyd tonight.
Tioga trailed Edgewood
The Tioga Bulldogs got close in a good one Friday night at Edgewood, but they ended up on the short end of a 37-34 loss after a failed fourth quarter comeback attempt.
Greeley McAden went 10-of-16 passing for 236 yards and three touchdowns.
He also ran 14 times for 134 yards and two scores.
Jaxson Hurst had six catches for 117 yards and a score.
Justin Arrington finished with two receptions for 83 yards and a TD.
Jake David had 44 yards and a touchdown on six catches.
Jonathan Hernandez ran 14 times for 73 yards.
He also had three catches for 34 yards.
The loss leaves Tioga winless on the year and looking to bounce back tonight at home against Lone Oak.
Lady Pirates, Tioga move up in Top 25
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team moved up six spots this week, working their way up the Class 2A Texas Girls Coaches Association weekly poll.
They are moved to number 17 from number 23.
The district rival Tioga Lady Bulldogs moved up four spots from 18 to 14.
Region 2 rival Lindsay moved from number 12 to number 11 and Nocona fell out of the Top 25 altogether.

Bearcat runners space at Azle
The Whitesboro cross-country teams had top-five finishes Saturday in Azle.
The Lady Bearcats were the runner-up with 48 points behind Decatur, who won with 25 points.
Nya Degraffenreed led Whitesboro with a time of 13:30.20 to place fifth.
Paisley Blevins was eighth in 13:48.30.
Brylee Weddle was right behind in 13:56.10.
Karen Melchor took 12th with a time of 14:04.
Tammy Lopez was 14th in 14:15.80.

The Collinsville and S&S cross-country teams had top-five finishes Saturday at the Valley View Invitational.
The Pirates were third in the boys’ standings with 62 points.
S&S placed fifth with 124 points.

S&S ladies on a skid, lose to Bells
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball fell to Bells Friday 25-9, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22 at home in district play.
Emily Bullard had nine kills.
Brooklyn Sterling had seven kills and 11 digs.
Bella Bennett landed seven kills.
Ryleigh Carr had five kills and two aces.
Rylee Garrison had 28 assists, six digs and three aces.
Maddalee Boyd had 10 digs for S&S.
The loss took S&S to 17-13 on the year. They visited Pottsboro Tuesday.

Tioga tops Alvord
The Tioga Lady Bulldog volleyball team topped Alvord Friday at home, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15, in non-district play.
Kyndall Whitley led the attack with 10 kills and nine digs.
Kennedy Slay had six points.
Maddison McDonald had five kills and six digs.
Sadie Bates had 18 assists, 10 digs and five aces.
Bella Dennis had 18 digs.
Maddy Schon had 12 digs.
The win took Tioga to 19-6 on the year.
They hosted Bonham on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Cats down to Ponder
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat volleyball team opened district play Sept. 9 at home with a 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 loss against Ponder.
The loss took Whitesboro to 21-9 on the year ahead of Friday’s road game at Pilot Point.
Ponder improved to 16-9 on the year.
Lady Pirates pound Denton Calvary
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team picked up a 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 win Sept. 9 against Denton Calvary at home in non-district play.
Kendall Brandewie led the attack with 17 kills.
Jaydee Matlock had 10 kills, 13 digs and three aces.
Paige Davidson had 33 assists.
Reece Elvington had five kills.
Reese Patterson landed 12 digs.
The win took Collinsville to 18-8 on the year.
They had a bye on Friday and returned to action Tuesday against Dodd City. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Rams lose to Leonard
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball team opened district play Sept. 9 with a 15-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-25 loss at home to Dodd City.
Brooklyn Sterling led the effort with 11 kills and 19 dig.
Brady Clark had 13 kills and five blocks.
Rylee Garrison had 35 assists.
Lana Walters had 19 digs.
The loss took S&S to 17-12 on the year. They hosted Bells on Friday.
