At their Sept. 11 meeting, Keep Whitesboro Beautiful (KWB) welcomed guest speaker Whitesboro Fire Chief Steve Pinkston, who spoke about the impact of 9/11 on the firefighting industry. From improved communications to advanced gear, many changes were made to fire rescue after experiencing this tragic event.
Following Pinkston’s presentation, the organization looked ahead to plans for the upcoming Peanut Festival on Oct. 18. From securing volunteers to man the KWB booth to ordering 150 bags of Cracker Jack and creating a special peanut mascot display, the group is hard at work ensuring a positive experience for the thousands of guests who will descend on Whitesboro in just five short weeks.
The group is also looking for volunteers for the “It’s a Hot Cocoa Christmas” downtown holiday event in December. Plans for the Christmas parade are moving forward and entrants are needed. Businesses/individuals will be receiving flyers soon with instructions on how to participate.
KWB will be meeting on Nov. 1 at 8:30 a.m. to clean up their “Adopt-a-Highway” section of US 377. Volunteers should meet at House of Brews, where KWB will offer volunteers a 10% discount on coffee purchased there.
In new business, KWB President Michael Ross and wife Rhonda are finalizing a display case at City Hall that features KWB memorabilia and history. Additionally, the organization will have two board member openings for the new year. They ask everyone to consider serving at this level.
The next KWB monthly meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Wesley Hall. Anyone is welcome to attend.
