Bearcats beat Bells
It took two days, but the Whitesboro Bearcats came up with a 20-14 win over Bells Saturday at home. 

After two long weather delays on Friday, the teams returned on Saturday morning to finish the final half of a highly anticipated non-district bout. 

Whitesboro’s sophomore quarterback Colt Fagan had 18 carries for 70 yards and two TDs.

He also went 17-of-24 passing for 129 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Justin Knight had 27 carries for 118 yards.

Ian Bruce had three catches for 59 yards.

Camron Howard had nine catches for 44 yards.

Wyatt Winchester had a six-yard TD catch.

The win took the Bearcats to 2-0 on the year.

They travel to Graham tonight.

Pirates beat Cooper 
Bad weather and key injuries did not deter the Collinsville Pirates. 

They powered through last week and picked up a 14-0 win over Cooper on the road. 

Paxton Davidson started at quarterback ahead of the injured J.J. Jenkins.

The shutout came when the game got called short in the third quarter due to inclement weather.

Davidson went 8-of-16 passing for 69 yards.

He also ran six times for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Brandon Cantu had seven carries for 27 yards and a TD.

He also had one catch for 12 yards. 

Chase Sheppard had four carries for 32 yards.

Landry Spivey landed two catches for 17 yards.

The win took Collinsville to 2-0 on the year. 

They travel to Callisburg tonight.

S&S ends early with a loss, Tioga never gets started
The S&S Rams’ road bout against Prairiland got called at halftime Friday night due to bad weather.

The Rams came up on the short end of a 14-0 final. 

Tioga’s home game against Ponder never got started. 

With rain delays until 9:30 p.m. and no end in sight, the teams called it off.

Lady Pirates, Tioga make Top 25 
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team earned their way into the Top 25 this week coming in at number 23 in the Class 2A Texas Girls Coaches Association weekly poll. 

They are joined by district foe Tioga at number 18.

Region 2 rival Lindsay checked in at number 12. 

Nocona, who resides in Region 1, is ranked number 9.

Bearcats runners warm up for region
Both Whitesboro High School cross country teams finished in the top-five at the Region II Preview Meet Saturday in Arlington.

On the boys’ side, Whitesboro took 10th in the 1A-4A race with 336 points

Sophomore Jaxsen McBride led the pack with a time of 18:02.20 and placed 28th.

Senior Zander Brannan was 30th in 18:08.30.

Senior Jesus Hernandez-Cortez was 48th in 18:34.40.

Senior Aidan Brinlee was 123rd in 20:02.50.

Senior Jayden Jobert was 127th in 20:04.20.

Sophomore Chase Timulson was 147th in 20:25.90.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Bearcats placed fourth in the 1A-4A race with 195 points. 

Sophomore Nya Degraffenreed led the Lady Cats with a time of 13:02.60 and placed 13th.

Senior Brylee Weddle was 29th in 13:33.60.

Sophomore Paisley Blevins was 49th in 14:01.90.

Junior Jasmin Hernandez placed 54th in 14:06.60.

Sophomore Karen Melchor finished 58th with a time of 14:09.30.

Junior Tammy Lopez was 85th in 14:29.20.

S&S, Tioga run well in Sadler 
The S&S boys cross country team came in runners-up at their third annual home meet—the Coach Brannan Ram Run last week. 

They scored 60 points to finish behind Leonard.

Junior Donaven Gingras led S&S with a 17:16.82 to place third.

Junior Matthew Flores was 12th in 18:08.20.

Freshman Kevin Flores Valenzuela was 19th in 18:44.16.

Senior Brandon Petty was right behind in 18:51.35.

Freshman Tanner Scoggins was 29th in 19:33.44.

Sophomore Brenden Hammer was 31st in 19:58.83.

Sophomore Aiden Hickerson was 39th in 20:24.60.

Tioga junior Garrison Black was the runner-up with a time of 17:10.94.

Senior Alexis Santoyo-Pina finished fifth in 17:26.75.

Senior Dominique Oranday was ninth in 17:37.56.
 

Sophomore Maddux Rodriguez was 27th in 19:30.55.
 

On the girls’ side, S&S was sixth at 159 points.

Junior Dandree Meeks led the pack with a ninth-place finish in 12:43.11.

Junior Kenzi Perry was 36th in 14:45.40.

Sophomore Ayvah Gentry finished 40th in 15:00.09.

Junior Lillian Vickery was 42nd in 15:08.41.

Freshman Taylnn Williams was 59th in 17:26.87.

Lady Cats clip St. Jo
The Lady Bearcat volleyball team picked a non-district win Friday night, 25-17, 25-23, 25-11 at St. Jo.

The win took Whitesboro to 21-8 on the year.  

They opened District play Tuesday night at home versus Ponder.

Lady Pirates sweep Alvord
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team swept Alvord Friday night, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19, at home in non-district action.

The win took Collinsville to 17-8 on the year. They hosted Denton Calvary on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.

Lady Rams pound Pilot Point
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball teamed bounced back from last week’s loss to Lindsay and topped Pilot Point 25-15, 25-22, 25-13 at home Friday night in non-district play.

The win took S&S to 17-11 on the year. They opened district play Tuesday with Leonard at home. 

Results were not available as of press time.

Tioga falls to Leonard 
The Tioga Lady Bulldog volleyball team lost to Leonard, 25-22, 25-13, 25-12, Friday night on the road in non-district action. 

Kennedy Slay and Kyndall Whitley each had seven kills.

Maddison McDonald and Brennan Guenther each had four kills.

Sadie Bates tallied 11 assists.

Bella Dennis had 12 digs.

The loss took Tioga to 18-6 on the year. 

They hosted Wolfe City on Tuesday night.

Results were not available as of press time.

Tioga tops battle of the Bulldogs
The Tioga Lady Bulldog volleyball team topped Howe 25-15, 25-18, 25-13 last week in non-district action at home.

Kennedy Slay, Kyndall Whitley, Maddison McDonald, Brennan Guenther, Kenzie Powers and Bella Dennis led the attack. 

The win took Tioga to 18-5 on the year ahead of Friday’s road trip to Leonard.

Tioga is two wins short of their total of 20 wins from last year.

Lady Pirate top VV
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team topped Valley View 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 Tuesday, Aug 2 at home in non-district play.

The win took Collinsville to 16-8 on the year ahead of Friday’s home match against Alvord.

Lady Rams lose to Lindsay
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball team fell to Lindsay Tuesday, Aug. 2 in three sets on the road. 

The finals were 25-15, 25-16, 25-16 in the non-district match.

The loss took S&S to 16-11 ahead of Friday’s home stand against Pilot Point.
