WHITESBORO, COLLINSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENTS INCORPORATE A CHILD IS MISSING PROGRAM
Whitesboro and Collinsville Police Departments have incorporated a nationwide program: A Child Is Missing Alert.
Since 1997, A Child Is Missing has been providing law enforcement with its first responder program. ACIM’s rapid response telephone system alerts residents in a targeted area about a missing child, elderly person (i.e. suffering from Alzheimer’s), college students and mentally challenged or disabled individuals.
The program, supported by a national grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention through the U.S. Department of Justice, is expected to serve all 50 states by the end of 2005. The program is provided at no cost to local departments.
FIRE RAVAGES SADLER MOBILE HOMES: SVFD CHIEF CONCERNED
Firefighters from seven departments responded to a three-alarm fire early Monday north of Sadler.
First arriving firefighters discovered multiple structure fires involving two mobile homes and threatening another, with grass fires surrounding it all.
A total of 15 units and 30 firefighters and rescue workers responded to the scene.
The area is essentially an abandoned, makeshift mobile home park that has been unoccupied for about a year.
Sadler Fire Chief Dennis Deckard plans on contacting the Fire Marshall and County Commissioner Gene Short to determine what can be done to prevent a similar event in the future.
“I was concerned about the safety of the residents while they were living there, but now I am concerned for the safety of firefighters who will likely respond to that location again in the near future,” Deckard said.

COUNCIL OK’S CITY BUDGET
The Whitesboro City Council Tuesday night approved a 1986 operating budget with expenditures totaling $1,574,716 and a capital reserve fund balance at the end of the 1985-86 fiscal year of $112,000 which will total $1,686,716 after paring a $400,000 deficit in workshop sessions over the past several weeks.
The budget will determine the financial operation of the city for the 12 months beginning Oct. 1
Mayor Charles Winchester told the audience present at Tuesday night’s meeting that part of the problems in working out the budget included overcoming a $53,440 deficit in the ambulance fund.
Winchester also noted that the budget calls for an increase in revenues from property taxes by three percent although the council adopted a tax rate of $0.5754 per $100 valuation compared to last year’s tax rate of $0.5780.
