SCHOOL SPIRIT PROMOTION HOPED FROM PAW PRINTS
Giant cats stalked into town Sunday night, leaving behind paw prints and a spirit of enthusiasm at the Whitesboro High School, home of the Bearcats.
Located along 4th Street, the school can boast of PAW POWER this year after the giant Bearcats strolled along 4th Street, leaving imprints of huge white paw marks between North Union and North Jordan Streets.
Judging from the prints, it’s obvious the Bearcats took up dominion at the athletic field house of the high school.
“We’ll be winners this year,” declared one of the students as she looked at the unbelievable trail of giant paw prints on the roadway.
Where did the paw prints really come from? About 25 members of the Whitesboro Bearcat Boosters Club met at 11 p.m. Sunday to spray paint approximately 90 prints on the roadway after the City of Whitesboro granted approval for the school spirit promotion.
Spray guns and two portable compressors were used to apply the weatherproof white striping roadway paint that was sprayed on templates placed in the street. The club members painted until after 2 a.m. Monday.
“We want the kids to be proud to be a Bearcat and from Whitesboro,” said Whitesboro Independent School Teacher Sue Barker. “We’re trying to get unity, not only in the school but in the town.”

SCHOOL TO GET NEW COACHES
Two new coaches for the Whitesboro schools are expected to be named this week, following official resignation Monday of Kyle Bearden, assistant line coach, and Jack Peterson, senior high coach.
Unofficially, the two resigned last week, but the official action came only Monday.
Superintendent W.W. Davis said that replacements might be named “within the next 24 hours.”
Selection of the assistant coach will be made by Bill O’Brien, head coach, while the junior high coach will be named by the school board.
Bearden resigned in order to accept a position in McCamey, in West Texas, while Peterson announced that he would go to Pleasanton, about 33 miles south of San Antonio.
