Plans are moving forward for the Aug. 30 Military Festival and Car Show, hosted by the Veterans Association of Whitesboro (VAW).
This patriotic, family-friendly, community-wide event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and will honor military history while celebrating automotive classics.
The event will include a military tribute and Veterans’ appreciation followed by a car show displaying restored military vehicles, classic cars (from 1900-1970), tractors and motorcycles. Food trucks and local vendors will have items for sale, and families can enjoy music, entertainment, corn hole tournament and kids’ zone.
The VAW will provide cooling stations and complimentary bottles of water, and a punch card system will encourage attendees to visit downtown businesses for a chance to win prizes.
Notices went out last week to households on Center and Mineral Streets to alert residents about street closures for the festival. From 6 a.m.-4 p.m. on the day of the festival, Center Street will be closed off from E. Main Street to North Avenue and Mineral Street will be closed off from Past and Blast to Virginia Avenue. In addition to road closures, residents in the affected areas are asked to please remove any vehicles from the street.
Online registration for the car show opened Aug. 1 and in-person registration will take place Aug. 30 from 8-10 a.m. (Registration fee is $20 per vehicle and is half-price for Veterans and active military.) Judging will occur at noon that day and the awards ceremony (during which trophies for each category and People’s Choice will be distributed) will begin at 1 p.m.
The VAW is seeking support via monetary donation, sponsorship or in-kind contribution to help bring this event to fruition. All proceeds from the festival will benefit the VAW in their mission to provide resources and support for area Veterans.
