After a broken back flow valve caused a massive sewage leak resulting in the need for extensive renovations at the Collinsville Elementary School last month, construction was completed and school was able to start as planned on Aug. 4.

The district did announce a big change for this school year, however, regarding transportation for elementary students. According to a statement released on Aug. 1, beginning this school year, buses will no longer drop off elementary students at the secondary school at the end of the school day.

Students who live on David Lane, Patti Court, Mary Lee Lane, Shirley Jean Lane, Georgia Boulevard or Olivia Lane will be dropped off at the intersections of these roads and Old Town Road. High school students living on these roads may ride the bus from the high school to these designated drop-off locations.

In the morning, students living on these roads will walk to the high school. Elementary students will be picked up there and transported to the elementary school.

For those elementary students who, in the past, have been dropped off at the high school for parents to pick up all siblings, parents will need to pick up those children at both the elementary and secondary campuses. If elementary siblings ride with older high school siblings, the high school siblings must now pick up their younger siblings in the pickup line at the elementary school.

Secondary students living near the elementary school will still be transported from the secondary school to the elementary school at dismissal.

Additionally, a new drop-off and pick-up route are in effect for the school year.

Parents will head west on Stone, south on Walnut and east on Pecan.

Drivers must check in with a staff member at the Church of Christ entrance and have a car tag on display. Anyone who enters the line from a side road without checking in will have to wait until the end.

The district feels this is the most efficient way to complete the drop-off/pick-up process.
