The Whitesboro City Council met with Lincoln Consulting & Engineering on Tuesday, July 22. The purpose of the special called meeting was for the engineering firm to present planned development documents to the council for historical and educational purposes.
Joshua Lincoln, President and Engineer at Lincoln Consulting & Engineering, went into great detail about the Main Street Mixed-Use Project timeline which began in 2022. The project is a proposed development located off Hwy. 56 near the high school, just east of the Ag Barn. Originally zoned for commercial, the landowner would now like the land to be zoned for a mixed-use development that would be part housing, part light industrial.
The proposal is still being considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission and will be on the agenda at their next meeting on Monday. If approved, it will be up for discussion at the City Council meeting the following evening.
According to the agenda, the project has undergone three different City Administrators during the process. After much discussion, the City Council asked Mayor Jeff Butts and City Administrator Phil Harris to meet with the landowners.
Moving forward, Harris led a Budget Planning Direction discussion. During the discussion, Harris went into detail about a proposed budget spreadsheet he had developed, which included the possibility of an increase in salaries for the Whitesboro Police Department. Harris also noted four new firemen have joined the Whitesboro Fire Department and a new Emergency System has been added to the city.
Lastly, Mayor Butts said he attended a round table discussion in July and said he appreciates the City Council for all the decisions made for Whitesboro.
