Businesses in the Whitesboro community are holding their annual Back to School Supply Drive benefiting the four Whitesboro Independent School District (WISD) campuses.
Twelve participating local businesses are encouraging community members to donate school supplies to be distributed to WISD schools. Every year, not only are there students who are unable to provide their own supplies but supplies often run out quickly. By providing school supplies to the campuses, teachers are able to ensure they have what they need to set their students up for success.
Amber Young of Leopard Antler Boutique in downtown Whitesboro is heading up this year’s drive. She has delivered School Supply Drive posters to each of the participating businesses who are serving as drop-off locations, and she’s excited to see how many items they’ll be able to provide to Whitesboro schools.
“This is my third year doing this,” Young said. “Each year, we’ve been able to donate a huge, overflowing tote (of supplies). We have such a giving community.”
School supply donations can be anything school-related, such as composition notebooks, rulers, glue, notebook paper, three-ring binders, map pencils and more. (See a more complete list in the ad at the bottom of this page.)
Anyone interested in contributing can donate items to any of the participating businesses:
First United Bank
Sunny Paige
Cook’s Mercantile
Legend Bank
Urban Junkie
Hometown Pharmacy
Kaleidoscope Quilt Shop
4U Credit Union
Flowers by Faith
1st Texas Home Health
Leopard Antler Boutique
Straight Up Chiropractic
For those who want to participate but don’t care to shop for the items themselves, First United Bank has set up a bank account for people to donate money. Young will then use that money to purchase the supplies herself.
The deadline for all donations (items and funds) is Aug. 11. That will give businesses time to gather the supplies, sort them and distribute them to the schools.
