Despite temperatures finally reaching triple-digits, the appearance of back packs, binders and folders in store aisles signals that summer is drawing to a close and the first day of school is just around the corner. Area schools are preparing for student arrival with their annual Meet the Teacher events, an opportunity for students to not only see their classroom and meet their new classmates for the upcoming school year, but to also drop off school supplies and prepare for the first day of school (Aug. 4 for Collinsville ISD and Aug. 13 for Whitesboro ISD and S&S CISD).

Collinsville Elementary will hold its Meet the Teacher night Thursday, July 31 from 5-6 p.m. Collinsville High School students can pick up their school schedules July 29-30 from 1-3 p.m. and July 31 from 8-11:30 a.m.

Whitesboro ISD students’ Meet the Teacher night is Monday, Aug. 11. At Hayes Primary School, the event will be held from 4-5 p.m. At the Intermediate School, it will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sixth grade orientation at Whitesboro Middle School is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. At that time, incoming sixth graders will meet their teachers, tour the building and pick up their class schedule. (Schedules will not be available for those with incomplete enrollment or incomplete immunization records.)

At S&S CISD, elementary students can attend Meet the Teacher on Monday, Aug. 11 from 4-6 p.m. Middle school students’ Meet the Teacher is that night from 5-7 p.m. and will be a come-and-go affair. Schedule pick-up will be in the cafeteria, transportation will be on-site to answer bus questions and families can pick up prepared school supplies in the library. The high school will hold Fish Camp (orientation for incoming freshmen) on Thursday, Aug. 7. Students can visit with and learn about various school clubs from 6:30-7 p.m. and orientation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear their school-appropriate beach attire and will enjoy snacks and prize give-aways.
