Our Fourth of July this year was too memorable to forget, but oh how we wish it never had happened! The Hill Country’s camper nightmares and the huge loss of life are etched on Texas hearts for life.
There is no way to summarize how flood waters raging down the Guadalupe River wiped out so many lives in less than an hour, but the work won’t cease for residents and visitors until when? Maybe never.
The whole world heard and knew about the tragedy happening in Kerrville, and fingers began pointing by July 7. Why no warning sirens? Why were cabins so near the river edge? Where was FEMA when we needed it?
And it didn’t take much longer for the media to point out all the cuts in federal funding that were issued by the current administration, both dollars and personnel from the National Weather Service and other affiliated departments.
All part of the “Big Beautiful Bill” to save our taxpayer money. Now I didn’t request that prior to the November election and maybe you didn’t either, any more than you wanted Social Security slashed and other departments eliminated – but that’s what we got. And are still getting flooded with.
The GOP, which targeted weather service cuts.
This isn’t conservative! Texas Congressional representatives makes me want to wretch thinking how much might have been skimmed off the top “to save us money” for them to pocket the rest.
And Senator Ted Cruz was the first to jump in front of the press on July 10 to decry the lack of flood warnings, but the weather staff had already been slashed in that godawful bill. He was vacationing in Greece at the time of the flood, but he heard about it in time to make it to Kerrville for the press conference.
For the record, 22 Texas Republican representatives also supported the cuts in the weather service and meteorological staff, including most from these parts like: Crenshaw, Fallon, Gill, van Duyne, Sessions, Roy, Jackson and Goldman.
My suggestion is for everyone to take a hard look at whom they’ve supported in the past and how they’ve voted recently, then ask: “exactly what is conservative about tossing 17 million Medicaid recipients to the dogs, or starving school children when the Texas treasury exceeds $33 billion dollars?”
Or, why are “liberal” Democrats fighting for the Constitutional rights for everyone, not just immigrants but citizens as well?
It seems that Trump supporters have gotten their wires crossed, or backwards anyway.
They’re waiting to see what His Excellency wants before they commit to any vote. That’s what hypocrisy is all about.
And why it hurts not just Texans in the firing line, but the whole country.
That’s exactly what will happen at the special session Texas Gov. Abbott called, that opened on Monday, for the legislature to come back to Austin, to consider flooding, redistricting the whole state and THC.
Not because the people of Texas are clamoring for even more change in their lives. Nope, not even. The president wants five more GOP reps in Congress.
Because the man who screams “UNFAIR” at every turn a Democrat makes, is now trying very hard to select where GOP voters live. And it’s not a census year, which was previously protocol.
It’s just not nice that DJT#47 keeps treating America as his empire.
It’s not. It’s OUR country, and Americans should begin making these decisions.
They just need to “be woke” to realize that’s happening. And tell Donald to stop it, just like he told Putin!
