Good news for visitors of the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. After trail and road closures due to heavy rains flooding the area, the refuge has now opened several roads (Wildlife Drive and Bennett Lane are fully re-opened; Plover/Tern/Egret Roads are now open).
Additionally, all hiking trails are open. However, the refuge warns hikers to please proceed with caution and be on the lookout for obstacles and snakes.
As for planned events, this Saturday’s Refuge Rocks for Kids will be a presentation entitled “Water, Water Everywhere” from 10-11:30 a.m.
Attendees will dive into the refuge for a splash-tastic, hands-on adventure where kiddos can uncover the secrets of the water cycle and discover why water is the lifeblood of all living things.
Attendees will embark on a journey through the local watershed, meet some thirsty plants and critters and join in fun activities that show how we can all be water-saving superheroes.
Get ready to dig deep into the wonders of water, learn how it’s used and find easy-peasy ways to save it at home.
From spotting sneaky water-wasting habits to mastering the art of shorter showers and turning off that tap while brushing those pearly whites, it will all be a blast with visuals and hands-on fun, perfect for all ages.
This program is free and open to the public, funded by donations. For more information, visit www.friendsofhagerman.com
