VAUGHN CROWNED 2005 W’BORO RODEO QUEEN
Leah Vaughn came away with the title of 2005 Whitesboro Rodeo Queen Saturday night.
Vaughn, who competed against Janie Renfroe and Jordan Hatchel, was crowned by 2004 Rodeo Queen, Tylar Clements just prior to the start of Saturday night’s show of the 47th Annual Whitesboro Rodeo.
A 13-year-old Whitesboro native, Vaughn is the daughter of Dee and Kelly Vaughn.

SADLER RECEIVES $250,000 GRANT FOR COMMUNITY WATER IMPROVEMENTS
Water improvements will soon be underway in the City of Sadler -- thanks to a $250,000 grant award from the Texas Community Development Program.
The city applied for the funding during August 1994 - their second request after being declined during 1993.

LOCAL GIRL SHOWS CHAMPION LONGHORN
She’s only 12 years old, but Cori Slakely of Route 2, Whitesboro, is already a national champion...thanks to her efforts combined with a quality longhorn steer named “Net Worth.”
Cori, the daughter of David and Cheryl Slakely, won the “National Grand Champion Longhorn Steer” honors on June 28 during a competition held in Cuchara, Colo., among the first place qualifiers from all over the United States. Approximately 95 competed in the event, with Cheryl and Net Worth coming out on top.

RESIDENTIAL RATES REDUCED
General reduction in residential electric service rates was approved by the Whitesboro city council at their meeting last Thursday night. This is the first time in the city’s history (since 1907) that electric service rates have been reduced or even changed, according to the spokesman for the city.
The new rates will be retroactive and June bills will be computed on the new schedule.
