Nine Whitesboro High School (WHS) graduates were the recipients of the Shirley Strong Memorial Scholarship.
Allison Eldredge, Claire Ortiz, Dax Martin, Jacob Knight, Jenna Estes, Kenady Rentfrow, Lindsay Hermes, Luke McAdoo and Tucker Berry were grateful to receive this year’s honor.
The Shirley Strong Memorial Scholarship was established in May 2020 to assist students with their future education. Shirley “Suddath” Strong graduated Valedictorian from WHS in 1954, then received her degree in elementary education from Texas Christian University.
She taught 32 years for Fort Worth and Arlington ISD, then ended her teaching career as a volunteer in her daughter Suzette’s Hayes Primary Kindergarten-5 class.
She encouraged her students to view education as the way to achieve their goals.
“Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients,” Suzette Strong said. “I know they will make ‘Grandma Shirley’ proud with their future endeavors.”
