After two break-ins with theft in Whitesboro last week (resulting in thousands of dollars in items and equipment stolen from Petty’s Tire and the Whitesboro Riding Club), citizens have begun seeing more incidents in town this week.
Sunday and Monday residents began reporting instances of vehicle break-ins and items being stolen from garages and front porches. The Whitesboro Police Department (WPD) is working diligently to solve these cases and have reason to believe this week’s thefts are unrelated to those of last week.
Video footage captured by residents’ doorbell and security cameras showed two young men working together to steal property, then driving off in a black four-door pick-up truck.
Thanks in part to this footage, the WPD has identified a key suspect in the case and has issued a warrant for his arrest.
Additionally, the department has been able to recover many of the stolen items and is beginning to make contact with victims to release those items to their owners. Anyone waiting for updates can check the status of their case by emailing Detective Nortman at [email protected] or calling the non-emergency line at 903-564-3585.
“It’s normal to see an uptick in crime during the summer months,” WPD Chief Kevin Dockery said. He reminds everyone to lock their vehicles when not in use and to remove any valuables that might be located inside. It’s also important to lock shop buildings and houses when not at home.
