The Tioga ISD Band Booster Club, last week, named new officers for the upcoming school year and awarded scholarships to five graduating seniors.
The club met Tuesday, May 20 at Tioga Middle School.
The board reshuffled, as is required at the conclusion of each year. New officers were elected for the upcoming school year.
Austin Lewter was elected club president. Carlena Rhymes was elected vice-president. Will Fritcher was elected club secretary and Kayla Fritcher was elected treasurer.
As club bylaws prescribe, band director Jesse Speer will serve as an ex-officio board member.
“In addition to an Executive Board of officers, our Booster Club bylaws call for three committees to serve in consult with the board,” Lewter said. “Those are the publicity committee, fundraising committee and membership committee. Currently, only one of these committees is occupied so we are looking for help.”
Former booster club officers Teyhia Graves and Gina Redfearn were named to the publicity committee Tuesday night.
“If you have been looking for a way to serve, here is your chance,” Lewter said. “We are all in this together and a little bit of volunteer time on your behalf will pay dividends for our program. Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved. We are excited about a bright future ahead and would love for you to help in our kids’ success.”
The club approved funding $1,000 in senior scholarships previously awarded at the spring concert earlier this month.
Five $200 scholarships were awarded to each of the band’s graduating seniors.
Scholarship recipients include Harrison Patterson, Liz Fraire De Leon, Jesus Molina, Manuel Molina and Landon Bingham.
The club also approved expending $2,500 for a new wrap for the band trailer.
Booster Club sponsor Fritcher Plumbing will match the expense for a total of $5,000 of trailer repairs.
In other business, the board agreed to leave annual Booster Club sponsorship levels the same for the upcoming school year.
The next Booster Club meeting will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4 in the High School Band Hall.
“I know that will be a busy week for everyone, but we encourage you to make it if you can,” Lewter said. “Mr. Speer will be on hand to meet parents. Again, we are excited about the future and are thrilled that you are a part of it.”
