City leaders, citizens, school supporters and several pre-kindergarten classes attended the groundbreaking for the upcoming Early Childhood Center for Whitesboro Independent School District (WISD) on May 16 at 10 a.m.
Superintendent Ryan Harper addressed the crowd before asking the school board to pick up golden shovels and perform the ceremony.
City council members, architects and designers were also invited to participate in the groundbreaking, as were the pre-k students (they will be the first class to get to enjoy the new facility).
The Early Childhood Center is one of several projects that passed in a $118 million bond package in 2024 to mitigate the current and expected growth occurring in our school district.
In addition to the construction of an Early Childhood Center, the bond includes a multipurpose activity center; performing arts auditorium (with 808 seats, it’ll be one of the largest performing arts venues in the area) and a Career and Technical Education (CTE) addition to the high school.
It also includes an Agricultural Sciences Center, whose groundbreaking ceremony was held at 1:30 p.m. that same day.
These projects will be located near the current high school and are scheduled to be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 includes the Early Childhood Center, Agricultural Sciences Center and multipurpose center. Phase 2 includes the auditorium and CTE addition.
Weather and steel prices permitting, hopeful grand openings will occur in fall/spring 2026/2027.
