The Whitesboro Community Choir performed their 10th anniversary concert to a full house last Thursday evening. The pews at the First Baptist Church in Whitesboro were full as the community gathered to support the town’s well-loved singing group.

The performance, “A Decade of Harmony,” began with a proclamation from Mayor Jeff Butts recognizing and appreciating the group on behalf of the City of Whitesboro. The concert then began with a program of Broadway show tunes ranging from timeless classics like Phantom of the Opera to present-day hits like “Come Alive” from The Greatest Showman.
(Members of the Whitesboro High School choir joined the group on stage for a joint performance.)

In a touching tribute, the choir sang “For Good” from Wicked (with solos by Jackie Mitchell and Bill Hayes) while an In Memoriam slideshow played on the overhead screen, featuring photos of choir members who have passed away in the organization’s 10 years.

It was an especially emotional moment for Director Susie Meals, whose sister was included in the presentation. (Meals’ other sister, Marilyn Meals, is the choir’s piano accompanist.)

The concert’s closing number was “Joyful, Joyful” (featuring solos by member Brandy Leach and former member Rebecca Meals) and past members were invited to join the choir on stage for the finale.

The evening concluded with a public thanks to sponsors (EXP Realty – The Meals Team; GFWC History Club of Whitesboro; GFWC Lake Area Woman’s Club; Holiday Auto Group; House of Brews Coffee House; RJ Marketing Solutions; THR Painting & Remodeling; and THR Lights & Install.

Following the concert, attendees were invited to a reception in the lobby of the building (hosted by the GFWC History Club of Whitesboro, GFWC Lake Area Woman’s Club and House of Brews Coffee House). There, they could see a display featuring a scrapbook (created by Donna Hagerty), photos, articles and a special four-page newspaper spread celebrating the choir’s past 10 years (which has been on display at First United Bank for the past few weeks); a chalk art piece drawn by Chris Jefferson; and other memorabilia.

The Whitesboro Community Choir is under the direction of Susie Meals, Jackie Mitchell and Brenda Warren. The group is always welcoming new members. Reach out to any member of the choir to learn more and follow them on Facebook for updates on future performances.
