The Whitesboro Lady Cats are heading to regional finals after sweeping Mineola last week.

Bearcats sweep Area round
After literally stealing game one and making it just as interesting in game two, the Whitesboro Bearcat baseball team swept Pottsboro in the area round last week to move on to the playoffs. 

Tracy Brees did not allow an earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks in game two at Sanger. 

The Bearcats buckled down for a 5-4 win that clinched the sweep. 

Brayden Bomar walked, scored and got the final out for the save.

Jacob Knight singled, walked and scored once. 

Korbin Ross walked three times, drove in a run and scored once.

Camden Stephens singled and walked twice.

Dax Martin walked twice and scored once.

Troy Randall walked twice and drove in a run.

The win took Whitesboro to 15-12 on the year. 

They will face Texarkana Liberty-Eylau in a region semifinal series at Paris High School. Game 1 is at 6 p.m. tonight. 

Games 2 and 3 will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The area sweep came after a 4-3 walk-off win from a stolen base in Game 1. 

Andrew Quick’s dash towards the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning sealed the deal. 

Also in Game 1, Quick walked twice, scored twice and stole home twice.

Rhet Rudzinski singled, walked and scored once. 

Bomar doubled, walked and earned the win in relief.

Knight walked and drove in a run.

Martin allowed three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and seven walks in six innings for Whitesboro.

Lady Cats sting Mineola
It was close in both affairs, but the Whitesboro Lady Cat softball team is on to the regional finals after sweeping Mineola last week in Rockwall. 

They sealed the deal with a 3-2 win in Game 2 where Avery Howerton did not allow an earned run on four hits.

She logged nine strikeouts and no walks.

Bradi Gallaway singled and scored twice.

Reagan Downs, Cam Ortiz and Makayla Wolf each singled and drove in a run.

Tylar Olsen scored once.

The win took Whitesboro to 22-9 on the year. 

They are on to their third straight region final appearance this week. 

They opened against Gunter at Prosper Walnut Grove last night. 

Results were not available as of press time.  

Game 2 is 6 p.m. tonight.

Game 3, if necessary, is 1 p.m. on Saturday.

They opened the series with a 7-5 win on game one. 

Olsen was 2-for-3, walked, drove in three and scored once. 

Gallaway went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and walked once. 

Howerton allowed an earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

She also singled, walked twice and scored once.

Ortiz singled, walked and scored once. 

Breighlin Rupert singled and drove in a run.

Reagan Downs walked and scored once in game one.

Pirates pick apart Windthorst 
It took three games and a few extra innings, but the Collinsville Pirate baseball team is Area Champions once again after a hard-fought series against Windthorst last week in Fort Worth. 

Garrett Trevino scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th inning of game three and the dust was allowed to settle.

Trevino also tripled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice in game three. 

Paxton Davidson went 2-for-5 with a triple, walked, drove in two and scored twice.

Jaxon Jenkins went 2-for-5, walked, drove in two and scored twice.

Caysen Schafer singled, walked, drove in a run and scored once.

Jaxon Spivey walked twice and scored.

He also got the win with an inning and two thirds of relief.

Peyton Davidson scored three times.

The win took Collinsville to 25-4 on the year. 

They are on to face Crawford in a region semifinal series at Alvarado. 

Games 1 and 2 took place on Wednesday. 

Game 3, if necessary, was at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Results were not available as of press time.

Collinsville forced a Game 3 after a 9-4 win in Game 2 where Trevino went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and scored once. 

Morgan singled, walked three times, drove in a run and scored once. 

Jenkins and Peyton Davidson each singled, walked and scored twice.

Brandon Cantu and Spivey each singled and scored.

Schafer allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Jenkins went 2-for-3 and scored once in that affair.

Trevino did not allow an earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks in five innings.

He also walked and drove in a run.

Peyton Davidson doubled, walked and scored once. 

Cash Morgan singled and drove in a run in Game 1.


Class 3A Division II Region II 
The S&S Lady Ram softball team is not used to going three games. 

They are also not used to not being in the ‘win’ column. 

But, both those obstacles are behind them now and they are on to the Regional Finals. 

They advance after a 2-1 series win that ended in a 6-5 walk-off victory in 10 innings against Hooks last week at Paris.

Lily Nunn’s one-out RBI single to right-center scored Lana Walters from second base to seal the deal.

Nunn went 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs.

Walters went 3-for-7 with a double and scored twice.

Bri Fowler went 3-for-5 with a triple, drove in a run and scored once.

Hannah Foster and Izzie Talamantes each went 2-for-5 and scored once.

Brooklyn Sterling singled, walked twice and scored once.

Hayden Mowrey singled, walked twice and drove in two.

She also allowed five runs on 10 hits with 16 strikeouts and four walks.

The win took S&S to 24-1 on the year. 

They advance to the Regional Final for the first time since 2009 and will face Boyd.

Game 1 was Wednesday, May 14. 

Game 2 was Thursday. Results were not available as of press time. 

If needed, Game 3 will be tonight at 7 p.m. in Denton. 

The Lady Rams opened the series with their first loss of the year— a 1-0 final where Hayden Kight went 2-for-3 with a double.

Hayden Mowrey allowed a run on two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in game one.  

Bri Fowler doubled and walked.

Lana Walters and Hannah Foster singled.

S&S bounced back to land a decisive 12-1 win to set the stage for a Game 3.

Lily Nunn went 2-for-4 with two home runs in game two. 

She also walked and drove in five runs.

Mowrey threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks.

She also homered, walked, drove in three and scored twice.

Fowler went 2-for-2, walked three times and drove in two runs.

Walters doubled, walked three times, drove in a run and scored three times.

Brooklyn Sterling singled and scored twice.

Kight and Julia Walbom each singled and scored once. 

Talamantes singled and walked in game two.

Bearcat tennis competes at Region
Whitesboro’s Kousei Coppinger and Allison Eldredge finished fourth last week in tennis mixed doubles at the Class 3A Region II tournament in Tyler.

They reached the third-place match before losing, 6-4, 7-6, against Edgewood.

Whitesboro’s Leslie Sustaita and Sophia Salas lost in the first round, 5-7, 6-1, 2-6, against Blue Ridge.

In boys doubles, Whitesboro’s Logan Booth and Elijah Barrett lost in the first round, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, against Blue Ridge.
