Eleven Tioga FCCLA members are bound for the National Competition in Orlando, Florida this summer after top finishes last month at State in Dallas.

And they are raising money to fund the trip.

Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events are Competitive Events in which members compete at the regional/district, state and national levels.

The top two teams in each event at State punch their ticket to Nationals.

Students are recognized for proficiency and achievement in team and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation.

“Eleven students qualifying for Nationals is incredible,” Tioga FCCLA adviser Cristi Crowe said. “We took nine to Nationals last year. The success just continues to grow. We’ve never been able to take this many at one time. We are excited.”

The National Competition is set for July 4-8 in Orlando. The trip will cost about $2,000 per student and the fundraising is underway.

Drive Thru BBQ Lunch

FCCLA members will serve a Drive Thru BBQ sack lunch on Saturday, May 31 in the Tioga High School parking lot.

According to Crowe, patrons can pick up a sack lunch that includes a pulled pork sandwich, chips and a cookie for only $10.

Soda can be purchased for an additional $2.

Serving will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. or until they run out— whichever comes first.

“You won’t have to get out of your car,” Crowe said. “Just pull in and pull out and pick up a great lunch for a great cause.”

The pick-up line will form on the east side of Tioga High School. All proceeds will benefit the FCCLA travel fund.

Car Show Bake Sale

FCCLA members will also be on hand this Saturday in Collinsville for the annual Pirate Island Rods & Rides Roundup manning a bake sale at the downtown car show.

They will be located on the east side of Main Street selling homemade baked goods during the show from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Baked good donations are being accepted and all proceeds will benefit the travel fund for Nationals.

Cash donations are also welcome either in person by contacting Crowe at [email protected] or with Venmo at the QR code referenced with this article.

“So far, the support has been overwhelming,” Crowe said. “The kids have worked incredibly hard. The community support being poured out to help them achieve their goals is humbling.”
