Whitesboro’s 2nd Annual Chili Fest set for this Saturday

Whitesboro’s 2nd Annual Chili Fest set for this Saturday

This Saturday, May 17, the Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2nd annual Chili Fest from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in downtown Whitesboro. The event is sponsored by Holiday Chevrolet.

While last year’s event featured a sanctioned Corn Hole Tournament, this year’s event kicks off with a 5K, 10K and Fun Run that is sponsored by Integrity Medical Clinic and Perdue Works Therapy Group.

The run will go through downtown Whitesboro and prizes will be awarded. Overall male and female for the 5K and 10K will receive gift baskets donated by local businesses. For each of the runs one mile, 5K and 10K, awards will be presented in the following age groups:
12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80+

First place in each age group for each run will earn first-place medals. Second place in each age group for each run will earn second-place ribbons. Third place in each age group for each run will earn third-place ribbons.

Every participant will receive a t-shirt and swag bag. Contact the Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce or see their Facebook page for more information.

In addition to the race, this year’s Chili Fest will host more than 25 vendor booths ranging from jams and jerkey to jewelry and candles.

The event will also feature a kid zone with bounce houses, an entertainment stage with a DJ playing music and hosting chili-dog-eating and jalapeno-eating contests, handing out giveaways and more.

But the main attraction will be the chili cook-off, where teams will go head-to-head for bragging rights and cash prizes.

For a $100 entry fee, teams of four people can enter and receive t-shirts, koozies and swag bags. First-place winners will receive $2,000; second-place earns $1,500 and third-place earns $1,000. The community can purchase tickets to sample the chili and vote for their favorite recipes.

While Main Street will remain open, side streets like Center Street will be closed to traffic.

Chili Fest is a fun way to bring the community together while fostering friendly competition and generating some business in the downtown area. Mark your calendar and be sure to attend this free community event.
