Keep Collinsville Beautiful (KCB) will be kicking off its 15th Yard of the Month season this month.
This was one of the very first ongoing projects the organization initiated in 2011, its first year. Since then, KCB has recognized close to 100 different yards within the city of Collinsville for their efforts to keep their yards beautiful.
During the growing/gardening season from May until December, KCB volunteers will be surveying the town for exceptional landscaping and yards that stand out as a result of their care.
KCB board member, Kristy Parrot, is the chairperson over this project and will be inspecting yards very soon. Those whose yards are selected will have a special “KCB Yard of the Month” sign placed in their yard for that month, there will be a photo and article in the Whitesboro News-Record and on the KCB Facebook page as well as a one-year membership in the KCB organization.
As an added incentive this year, Spring Creek Nursery is donating a $25 gift certificate to each winner. Spring Creek owner Cally Johnson said, “I want to do all I can to help Collinsville homeowners have beautiful yards.”
KCB volunteers make every effort to note yards in every part of town and to recognize a variety of different winners.
During the month of October, we will be especially noting yards featuring Halloween motif, November will note Fall/Thanksgiving décor and in December we will look for Christmas holiday themes.
This is a fun project that everyone in town seems to enjoy and serves as an incentive for many homeowners to put in a little extra effort in their yards. The overall result is a more attractive community that features our pride in our special hometown of Collinsville.
