Eleven West Grayson Retired School Personnel Association (WGRSPA) members attended the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) District 10 Spring Conference in Richardson Monday, April 28.
A highlight of the day was WGRSPA member Harold Tamplen being named a District 10 Star for his outstanding service to the chapter, his church and community.
From serving as an officer and being a member of several committees to being the sound man, crafting handmade door prizes, helping with the Pumpkin Project or doing whatever is needed, Tamplen has proven to be a star performer and hard worker.
Another award was presented to the entire chapter for having the district’s largest percentage increase in the group’s size category.
Carol Pike, WGRSPA Membership Chair, accepted the certificate on our behalf. She noted that Treasurer Wanda Dutton handles the membership application process and dues, making it easy for her to gather the numbers and send the reports to TRTA.
Both ladies are great at encouraging members to share the benefits of TRTA membership and recruit new members.
After the business meeting with President Susan McDaniel presiding, the program included Bill Barnes presenting the history, purpose and successes of the Texas Retired Teacher Foundation; Thomas Poore’s legislative report which encouraged members to vote; awards, inspiration and breakout sessions focusing on chapter officer duties, communications, chapter success and a creativity session. In addition, Jeremy Brown of AMBA updated members on benefits and Jeanie Coffee shared travel opportunities.
