Some years, election results are so close it could have been anyone’s race. That’s not true for this year’s local elections at Whitesboro, Collinsville and S&S.

Last Saturday marked Election Day for local city councils and school boards, and the results show clear winners.

In Whitesboro, there was no race for City Council as candidates ran unopposed. Jeff Butts will join the current council as Mayor since former Mayor David Blaylock’s term has ended. Blaylock did not seek re-election.

At the school board level, five candidates were running for two seats. Incumbent Shannon Blake will keep her seat with the most votes earned (298 votes). The other incumbent, Michael Parish, was overtaken by challenger Eddie Wood (213 votes). Parish received 181 votes while challengers Keri Downs and Brittany Knight received  155 and 121, respectively.

Collinsville also did not have a City Council election due to lack of challengers, but former Alderman Chase Guidera will serve as the city’s new Mayor (Derek Kays completed his term and did not seek re-election) and local Carl Lucas has been appointed Alderman to the council. At the CISD school board, Jarrett Crisp will hold Place 6, overcoming challenger Ronnie O’Neal Sr. 84-47. Bailey Lahr will hold Place 7, overcoming Nancy Castorena 81-50.

At S&S CISD, Cameron Fischer defeated Jeffrey McSpedden 284-184 for the sole available seat. The district was also calling for a $36 million bond for new facilities and district-wide upgrades. The proposition received 349 votes against and 197 for, therefore it did not pass.
