Cats, Lady Cats move on in playoffs
The Whitesboro Lady Cat softball team opened the Area round of the playoffs Thursday in Farmersville against Emory Rains. Results were not available as of press time.
Game two will be tonight at 6 p.m. in Farmersville. If needed, game three will be 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Bearcat baseball team entered the bi-district round yesterday as well.
They opened against Dallas Madison Thursday in Ponder. Game two followed game one.
Results were not available as of press time. If needed, game three will be today at noon in Ponder.
Rams rout Lone Oak
After getting too close for comfort in game one of the bi-district round April 26 in Bonham, the S&S Lady Ram softball team jumped to 5-0 lead on Lone Oak after two innings in game two and closed out a 8-3 win— punching their ticket to the Area round.
Hayden Mowrey went 3-for-3 with a triple, walked, drove in three and scored once in game two.
She threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Hayden Kight went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and scored twice.
Bri Fowler singled, walked and drove in three runs.
Lana Walters walked and scored twice.
Lily Nunn and Hannah Foster each singled and scored once.
After being tied 3-3 in the fifth inning of game one, the night before, explosive late in play propelled the Rams to a 7-3 win in that affair.
Mowrey’s three-run homer capped a four-run top of the ninth inning.
In game one, she went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, walked and drove in five.
She did not allow an earned run on three hits with 13 strikeouts and two walks.
Brooklyn Sterling went 2-for-5 with a home run and scored three runs.
Walters singled, walked and scored once.
Izzie Talamantes singled and scored once
Bri Fowler’s RBI single broke the tie in the ninth inning.
The series win took S&S to 20-0 on the year.
They are on to the second round for the third straight season and fifth time in six years. They opened against Paradise Thursday night in the Area round at Denton High School. Results
were not available as of press time.
Game 2 is 6 p.m. Friday. If needed, game 3 will be 1 p.m. Saturday.
Pirates pound Tioga, open playoffs
The Collinsville Pirate baseball team ended the regular season perfect in district play with an 8-0 win over Tioga Friday in Melissa.
Cash Morgan singled, walked, drove in two and scored twice.
Jaxon Spivey doubled, walked twice and scored twice.
Paxton Davidson doubled, walked and scored twice.
Jaxon Jenkins, Caysen Schafer and Garrett Trevino combined on a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks.
The win took Collinsville to 21-3 on the year and 16-0 in district play.
They have won 56 straight district games.
The defending State champs are the top seed for the 2A Division II Region II bracket and play Celeste in a bi-district series at Anna.
Games 1 and 2 were 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Results were not available as of press time. Game 3, if necessary, will be 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Gage Anderson went 2-for-3 for Tioga.

Johnny Dorpinghaus, Luke Sheppard and Hayden Roberts walked.
The Bulldogs finished the year 10-13 on the year and 5-11 in district— missing the playoffs.
Tioga softball on to Area
The Tioga Lady Bulldog softball team topped Wolf City in two games last week to advance to the second round of the post season.
Kenzee Powers scored on a wild pitch to win Game 1, prevented a walk-off by Wolfe City with a inning-ending double play and then delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth inning.
The 9-7 win in game two sealed the deal for Tioga.
Powers went 2-for-5 with a double, triple, three RBIs and scored once.
Kaylee Evans went 3-for-4 with a triple, walked and scored once.
Bella Dennis went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and scored once.
Aly Salinas went 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice.
Emerson Moore singled and walked twice.
The win took Tioga to 18-10 on the year and they advanced to the second round for the second straight season.
They opened the Area Thursday against Archer City in Bowie. Games one and two were back-to-back. Results were not available as of press time.
If needed, game three will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Bowie.
Tioga, C’ville send runners to State track meet
The Tioga boys track team won the Class 2A Region II track title on April 19 in Springtown and are sending five qualifiers to the State meet this weekend in Austin.
The Collinsville boys squad and Tioga girls are also sending athletes to State.
Tioga boys totaled 81 points.
Collinsville tied for sixth with 28 points.
The Tioga 400 relay of Greeley McAden, Jake David, Quesyn Arrington and Austin Norwood won with a time of 43.03 seconds.
The Tioga 800 relay of Justin Arrington, Norwood, Quesyn Arrington and McAden won with a time of 1:29.48.
Tioga’s Sam Mott won the 100 with a time of 11.37 seconds.
Norwood advanced as the runner-up in the 200 with a time of 22.26 seconds.
Justin Arrington was sixth in 23.03 seconds.
The Tioga 1,600 relay of Quesyn Arrington, David, McAden and Justin Arrington was the runner-up in 3:20.34.
Collinsville’s Russell Carney won the shot put with a throw of 57 feet, one and a half inches. Teammate Nick Cox was fifth at 47 feet, six and three quarter inches.
Tioga’s Cason Serna was eighth at 43 feet, 11 inches.
Carney also won the discus with a throw of 160 feet, one inch. Cox was seventh at 148 feet, 10 inches.
Mott also took fourth in the 400 with a time of 49.79 seconds.
Collinsville’s Isaiah Smith was fourth in the 800 in 2:01.97 while Tioga’s Kyson Kirkland was fifth in 2:03.54.
Collinsville’s Fernando Perez finished fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:40.32. Tioga’s Garrison Black was 11th in 4:50.25.
Tioga’s Alexis Santoyo-Pina was 12th in the 3,200 with a time of 10:46.28 while Perez was 15th in 11:20.28.
On the girls side, Tioga was 11th with 18 points.
Tioga’s Kyndall Whitley advanced to State as the runner-up in the 100 with a time of 12.86 seconds.
Whitley also advanced in the 200 as the runner-up in 26.33 seconds.
Tioga’s Lindsey Byler finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 11 inches. Collinsville’s Rilee Stewart was 14th at 30 feet, 11 inches.
Whitley also finished seventh in the triple jump at 34 feet, six and three quarter inches.
The Collinsville 1,600 relay of Jaydee Matlock, Zoey Kays, Reese Patterson and Ashleigh Ortowski was seventh in 4:19.59.
Collinsville’s Reese Patterson was 12th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.30 seconds.
Cats run at regional
The Whitesboro High School program was represented well at the Regional meet April 18 in Whitesboro.
Whitesboro’s quartet of Camron Howard, Colt Fagan, Wyatt Winchester and Max Hinsley was sixth in the 3200 with 3:29.33.
Jack Hinsley was 15th at five feet, eight inches.
Winchester was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 40.49 seconds and Jack Hinsley was seventh in 42.12 seconds.
Zander Brannan was fifth in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet.
Jack Hinsley was sixth in the 110 hurdles in 15.98 seconds. Howe’s Kason Capps was 10th in 17.11 seconds.
The 800 relay of Aidan Brinlee, Winchester, Jack Hinsley and Howard was 11th in 1:31.67.
On the girls side, Whitesboro’s Izzy Gabbert was sixth in the 300 hurdles with 49.55 seconds.
Avery Howerton was 16th in the long jump at 14 feet, nine and a half inches.
Gabbert was sixth on a tie-breaker in the high jump at five feet.
Whitesboro’s Riddle, Gabbert, La’Ney Powell and Weddle were 11th in the 400 relay with 50.53 seconds.
