“With hopes to hold summer games on the new field,” Parks and Recreation Director Penny Renfroe said, “all we are waiting on is a little cooperation from God. He has certainly made sure we know where all the puddles are located.”

Locomotive steams its way through county
The Whitesboro Volunteer Fire Department made a different type of call Monday when its members responded to the railroad tracks at the Broadway Street crossing where they unrolled hoses to give a drink to thirsty Union Pacific Steam Engine No. 8444 as it whistled its way through Grayson County en route from the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans to Omaha, Neb, for the winter.
The Whitesboro volunteer firemen were providing an invaluable service to Old No. 8444 since railroad water tanks disappeared along with steam locomotives.
“She sure was thirsty,” said one fireman. “She took over 8,000 gallons of water!”
